Video Travis Kelce sends Taylor Swift wild by taking an historic catch
Mahomes picked out tight end Kelce with a 23-yard pass in the second quarter. It was Kelce’s first major moment of the game but it was a historic moment for Mahomes.
The 23 yards made Mahomes the all-time passing leader in franchise history for the Chiefs, overtaking Hall of Famer Len Dawson.
As Kelce made the catch, Swift leapt up off her seat and huge Kelce’s mom, Donna, who was sat alongside her for the 27-20 victory over Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night.
By Kelce’s impeccable standards, it was a quieter game than usual on opening night but his team recorded a crucial win against distinguished opponents in their first step towards a potential ‘three-peat’.
Mahomes needed just 84 yards to eclipse Dawson — who finished with 28,507 yards while with the Chiefs — and did so in the second quarter when he found Kelce.
Dawson, a seven-time Pro Bowl quarterback, played 14 of his 19 seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs franchise (including one season with the Dallas Texans, who moved to Kansas City and became the Chiefs in 1963). He was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987.
Mahomes is in his seventh season as Kansas City’s starting quarterback after playing in only one game as a rookie in 2017.
He has been named to six Pro Bowl teams, won two MVP awards and led the team to three Super Bowl titles since being selected 10th by the franchise in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Swift, meanwhile, was back at after cheering Kelce and the Chiefs on in 13 games last season as they won their second straight Super Bowl title.
She was not seen sat alongside Brittany Mahomes, Patrick’s wife, despite them cheering the Chiefs on alongside each other at several games last season.
It comes after Brittany publicly backed Donald Trump to win the election later this year – a view that is seemingly at odds with Swift, who said she backed Hilary Clinton instead of Trump in the 2016 election.
