(VIDEO) Imane Khelif | Gender Reveal Update post Olympics | Before They Were Famous (Updated) – NQ

What’s up, guys? Welcome to another episode of Before They Were Famous! Today, we’re diving into the story of Iman Khif, the Algerian boxer who recently stirred up quite a bit of controversy and conversation.

Iman Khif is a professional boxer who made headlines at the 2024 Summer Olympics, where she took home the gold medal in the women’s welterweight boxing competition. However, her victory was soon clouded by false allegations regarding her gender and eligibility to compete. After defeating Italy’s Angela Karini, Khif became the target of misinformation, sparking a social media frenzy questioning her identity.

The International Boxing Association (IBA) disqualified Khif from the 2023 Women’s World Boxing Championships, citing she had failed a gender eligibility test. This led to baseless claims that she was male, igniting a fierce debate. Fortunately, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruled her eligible to compete in the Olympics, deeming the IBA’s disqualification arbitrary and lacking due process.

Since her Olympic triumph, Iman has faced significant backlash. Notably, Elon Musk criticized her, amplifying the hate she received online. In a heartfelt interview, Khif expressed her confusion over the hostility she faced, particularly from someone as influential as Musk. “You hate me, but you don’t even know me,” she said, emphasizing the impact these attacks had on her and her family.

Despite the adversity, Khif remains resilient. She has even embraced a new look, collaborating with Beauty Code for an Instagram post that showcased her transformation. While wearing her gold medal, Khif highlighted that her worth is not defined by her appearance but by her strength and strategy in the ring.

While many praised her beauty and strength, others criticized the notion that she needed to conform to traditional standards of femininity. Khif’s father publicly defended her, labeling the criticism as immoral and unfair. He encouraged her to let her achievements speak for themselves, reinforcing that she’s always been passionate about sports.

IOC President Thomas Bach also weighed in, affirming there was never any doubt about Khif’s identity as a female athlete. He stated, “We have two boxers who are born as women, who have been raised as women, and who have competed for many years as women.”
