The Yankees Payroll This Season Is Almost The Same As The Guardians, Royals, and Tigers Combined
That they’re pictured above is the Top 15 total payrolls in Major League Baseball this year. Things you will see include all of the remaining teams in the National League. Wait, fuck, the Mets let me down last night by blowing their lead. The Brewers are still alive too, but so are the Mets (#1), Phillies (#4), Dodgers (#5) and Padres (#15). As for the American League, if this were a class photo on Picture Day back in grade school, the key would read: Row 1: Yankees (#2), Not Pictured: Guardians, Tigers, and Royals. Which is kind of crazy considering the circumstances…..
That’s right folks, while the American League Central is undisputedly the class of baseball these days, their success is coming from teams that spend pennies on the dollars compared to their competition. In fact, if my calculations are correct, the Yankees spent just about the same amount this year on their roster as the rest of the teams left in the AL Playoffs did combined.
Yankees: $309,434,607
Royals: $122,546,954 (20th)
Guardians: $106,774,581 (23rd)
Tigers: $98,511,614 (26th)
Toal: $327,833,149
That’s fucking crazy that these are the 4 teams remaining, in which one of them will represent the league in the World Series. Yankees have the easiest path they’ve ever had, no? I mean, it’s not hyperbole to say that if you combined all 3 teams they could face, they would be equal to the Yankees this year (mathematically). And I do want to say this, before all the Yankees fans chime in, this is 100% not their problem. If the name of the game is to make the best team, why wouldn’t you go pay for the best team? It will be cool for any of the other three organizations to print the “Built Not Bought” shirts if they win, but there’s no one to blame except themselves if they lose. I mean, how can the Guardians cry about payroll when our ownership is the 6th wealthiest in the league?
So why do we have the 23rd highest payroll? Spend some fucking money, you have enough of it. Could you imagine if we provided the Guardians organization and their incredible track record of development with some actual fucking free agents? Maybe we’d have more than zero World Series championships since 1948 if we did….
