That'll Fix It – NFL Is Looking At Moving Touchbacks To The 35-Yard Line To Get More Kickoff Returns, Because That's The League's Biggest Problem
Remember how this dynamic kickoff return was going to save that aspect of the game? How we'd have all these returns and get Devin Hester and Dante Hall back in our lives? Yeah, not happening. Teams are just booting the ball to the end zone because there's no real difference in the 25 or 30-yard line, especially with the way kickers are making field goals this year. So what's the next solution?
Moving the ball to the 35-yard line. What are we doing here? How is the first option not moving back where the team kicks off from? Move the kicker back 10 yards and see if that works. Also why are we pretending like kickoff returns are now the make or break play in the league? We have problems all over the league with bad play, inconsistent reffing, bad quarterbacks and everything else. Sure, let's all look over here for that split second where a return happens and inevitably gets called back with a hold.
I don't even hate the new kickoff rules. Whatever, adapt to figure out something new. But moving the touchback to the 35? Why? So we can watch teams get a first down or two, mostly thanks to some questionable PI call or roughing the passer, and then kick a field goal? Move the kicker back. You want to change something, that's the obvious first move. How about we figure out what the fuck a catch is first? Maybe get some calls right or a schedule that makes sense. Anything else would be a better first idea than the cash grab of score-commerical-kickoff-commercial.
