Paris Hotel Apologizes to Serena Williams After She and Children Were Denied Restaurant Access

Serena Williams recently took to social media to share a frustrating experience she had while visiting Paris for the 2024 Olympics. The 42-year-old tennis legend claimed that she and her family were denied access to The Peninsula Hotel’s rooftop restaurant despite the venue being largely empty. Williams, who is in Paris with her husband Alexis Ohanian and their two daughters, expressed her disappointment on X (formerly Twitter) with a post that read, “Yikes @peninsulaparis I’ve been denied access to [the] rooftop to eat in [an] empty restaurant of nicer places 🫠 but never with my kids. Always a first. 🙄#Olympic2024.”

Hotel’s Response and Apology

In response to Williams’ tweet, The Peninsula issued a statement to Us Weekly apologizing for the incident. The hotel clarified that on August 5th, the date of the incident, their rooftop bar was fully booked. The only available tables at that time were in their gourmet restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was also fully reserved. The Peninsula expressed regret over the situation and reassured that Williams and her family are always welcome. “In response to Mrs. Williams’ tweet, for whom we have the utmost admiration and respect, as we do for all our esteemed guests, we can only reiterate our deepest apologies for her perception of tonight’s situation,” the statement read.
