Don't Look Now But Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers Now Have A 39.6% Chance Of Making The College Football Playoff
NOBODY PANIC!!! (Unless you're a fan of Clemson, USC, Michigan, or any of the other supposed "powerhouses" of college football that are currently LOOKING UP at our beloved boys in Crimson and Cream). That's right, folks! After dismantling a very good Maryland team on Saturday, Curt Cignetti's Indiana Hoosiers are now sitting at 5-0 with essentially a coin flip's chance of making the COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF!
Remember when the set out Win Total at 5.5 before the season starts? By golly, I hope we can beat Northwestern on Saturday to clinch the Over or else we'll only have….6 more chances to do so. Give Curt Cignetti not just the Big Ten Coach of the Year Award but the NATIONAL Coach of the Year Award IMMEDIATELY. Or wait, do you think Ryan Day buying his entire roster and taking a bunch of 5-stars to an undefeated season is more impressive than what our boy is doing in Bloomington? I don't care that Ohio State will still beat our Hoosiers by 4 touchdowns when we go to Columbus and make our kids' dreams come true of playing in front a crowd of 100,000+ in the Horseshoe. All I care about is that right now, we took the best punches from Florida International, Western Illinois, UCLA, Charlotte, and Maryland…..and none of them could play within two scores of us. And it's not just the fact that we've won….every single game….it's also that he's doing it while rejuvenating a fan base that is used to going apple picking every single Saturday of the Fall. Brick by brick by brick. Emailing the student body before the game to get their ass away from the study tables into into the stadium….and then thanking them afterwards. This dude fucking gets it. He's going to look great in the Swamp next year. But while Indiana still has him, might as well rattle off 11 wins right?
I'm at the point where if Indiana doesn't AT LEAST go 11-1, I'm considering the season a failure. That's how good of a coach Curt Cignetti is. Took a basketball school and made them into an undaunted football powerhouse. And now, I'm already looking at playoff bracket projections. Assuming we go 11-1 like we should, with only a loss to the soon to be #1 team in the country Ohio State, I'd imagine our Hoosiers are looking at a 6 seed? I really want that 5 spot to match up with the Group of 5 winner, but my guess is that goes to the loser of the Bama / Texas game. Either way, right now #11 in the rankings is USC. Coming TO Memorial Stadium in December? Holy shit I just got hard thinking about how daunted those West Coast pansies would be in the Indiana snow. Feed me that matchup, oh holy Football Gods.
