This summer, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London will have an exhibition about Taylor Swift. The star has lent a number of personal items for the show.
The V&A in South Kensington will open Taylor Swift: Songbook Trail on July 27. It is free to get in.
The 34-year-old Grammy-winning singer is currently on her hugely popular Eras Tour, which takes her to cities like Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff, London, and Dublin. The exhibit will show 16 of the outfits she has worn.
People will be able to get a close look at costumes and old records. Many of the items will be on show for the first time.
Along with costumes, the show has music awards, storyboards and things from the singer’s archive that have never been seen before.
The V&A says these will “explore her childhood and recording legacy.”
Customised cowboy boots that Swift wore on the Soul2Soul II Tour in 2007 and the black ruffled dress she wore in her most recent music video for Fortnight, the first song from The Tortured Poets Department, will be on display.
Swift stars with US rapper and singer Post Malone in the music video for “Fortnight.” The song has lines like “I love you, it’s ruining my life,” which are already a favourite among her devoted fans, who are called “Swaties.”
Each stop on the Songbook Trail will highlight a different part of Swift’s music and songwriting career. Swift’s music and songwriting career started when she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, when she was 14.
The V&A’s main galleries will be crossed by the Songbook Trail, which will show some of Taylor Swift’s most famous outfits along with rooms and items from the museum’s own collection.
Tom Piper designed the installations. One of his other projects is the V&A’s Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser show, which will open in 2021.
The billion-dollar Eras Tour is where Taylor Swift plays dozens of hit songs from all of her albums, including songs from 1989, Red, and Midnights. The tour also includes songs from The Tortured Poets Department.
The tour has been to the Americas, Asia, and now Europe. It has a huge famous following, including the Prince of Wales and his children, Tom Cruise, Andrew Scott, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
On one of her London dates, the pop star’s fans were thrilled when her boyfriend, the American football player Travis Kelce, surprised everyone by showing up on stage with her.
Kate Bailey, the senior curator of theatre and performance at the V&A, said, “We are thrilled to be able to show a range of iconic looks worn by Taylor Swift at the V&A this summer. Each one celebrates a different part of the artist’s musical journey.”
“Like things, Taylor Swift’s songs tell stories, and she often draws from art, history, and literature.”
