Why Rachel Brosnahan Was ‘Intimidated’ Filming With Husband Jason Ralph
The highly anticipated fifth and final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is set to premiere on April 14 on Prime Video. In a recent conversation at PaleyFest, Rachel Brosnahan, who stars as the titular character Midge Maisel, opened up about the experience of working alongside her husband, Jason Ralph, in the show’s final season.
Brosnahan revealed her initial apprehension about working with Ralph, who joined the cast as a series regular in season 5. “I was so intimidated because we haven’t worked together since we met, ten years ago, so I was really nervous for him to actually see me doing this up close,” she admitted. Despite the nerves, she described the experience as “amazing,” highlighting the unique dynamic of having her partner on set.
The couple’s on-screen interactions were a point of interest, particularly given their real-life relationship. Brosnahan joked that their on-screen confrontations felt like “therapy.” “We got to be so mean to each other at work and call it a job,” she quipped, noting that their real-life affection only made the on-screen drama more entertaining.
The role of Mike Carr, which Ralph took on in season 4, was actually chosen by the show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino. Brosnahan shared that Sherman-Palladino had been a fan of Ralph’s since the show’s early seasons.
