Talking about his religious beliefs, he said, “I believed in Jesus, but I never really like, you know, when it says following Jesus is actually turning away from sin.” The two-time Grammy-winning singer further explained,
What it talks about in the Bible, it’s like there’s no obedience. There’s no faith without obedience, so it’s like I had faith about like, ‘Oh, I believe Jesus died on the cross for me,’ but I never really implemented it into my life. I never was like I’m going to be obedient.
However, there came a turning point for the Ghost singer, when his perception of Jesus changed and he was able to continue his spiritual journey with the belief that “God has already loved me for who I am.”

I think it was my perception of who Jesus really was… I’d had really bad examples of Christians in my life, who would say one thing and do another, so they were the direct example of who Jesus was… I didn’t take it as seriously because I didn’t have a good example.
“The way I look at my relationship with God and with Jesus is I’m not trying to earn God’s love by doing good things,” Bieber further said, stating that he feels that God’s love is unconditional and freely given and that it comes from accepting Jesus and dedicating his life to him, rather than something that has to be earned.

When asked about the same, he answered, “I don’t know if I’d be alive, for sure. It was dark, really dark.” The singer also expressed his gratefulness for the influences he has had that inspired him to deepen his relationship with Jesus and made him believe that God “accepts us for who we are, and loves us through our pain and through our dirt.”
In another interview with Vogue he shared that despite everything that he went through growing up, he has found peace with Jesus. He also shared how his renewed faith blessed him with his wife Hailey Bieber.
I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul. And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result.
